Yes, fam, we are back! And we are REAL happy to be here. But before we make with the funny, we must dissect this new Cassadine business real quick. Alexis, née Natasha, gave us a VERY layered performance today, yes gawd! And now we have to wonder, is a Cassadine storm brewing??
ICYMI, today we find Alexis pensively looking over a jewelry box containing some (presumably) Cassadine heirlooms as well as a photograph of her father, the ominous Mikkos Cassadine. Valentin shows up in need of legal aid, and I just love when these two siblings share screen time. Of course, he sees what his sister’s been looking at, and offers to share his own recent research about their dear father. They question each other’s interest. Alexis claims she’s just trying to fill the gap in her knowledge of her family history. Valentin acknowledges that his fascination is not necessarily healthy, and that “sometimes we are drawn to the thing that hurts us the most. Wouldn’t you agree?” Alexis is shook. Valentin is not done reading his sister. After illustrating that he knows a fair amount about her past, too, he blasts her for her lack of self-awareness. “Remarkable how much of your life is a mystery to you. Almost as if you don’t want to know.”
Damn, sis!

Alexis accepts the trade of her legal work for more info on her Cassadine heritage, and then shows Valentin the door. As she once again studies the photograph of Mikkos, which has now had more screen time than Lucy has had since the Nurse’s Ball, she receives a phone call from Julian. The juxtaposition of his face on the Caller ID with the photograph of Mikkos drives the point home. As Alexis spilled to Kevin earlier this week, she is tired of being attracted to dangerous, unhealthy relationships with men like Jerry Jacks, Sonny Corinthos, and Julian Jerome (to name a few). Mikkos was a monster, and nearly all of her romantic interests have followed suit. Alexis wants to be DONE being drawn to the things that hurt her the most. To understand her current toxic relationship with Julian, she must research the toxic relationship that started it all.
This is pure gold. We are losing our minds over the promise of more sibling bonding between Alexis and Valentin, however reluctant she may be. This could go in any number of directions. Could there be some sort of resurrection in the works, even though portrayer John Colicos died nearly two decades ago? Mikkos died in 1981, while Luke literally watched him freeze to death in his own diabolical creation. However, remember Stavros Cassadine? In 2001 AND 2013, Mikko’s son came back from the dead in storylines containing cryogenic chambers, a chilling nod to the demise of his father so many years prior. But what if this time, it is Mikkos who is resurrected? Maybe his salvaged brain is placed in the body of a younger model? He’s got a lot of descendants in town, and he may not be too thrilled about Valentin being in full control of his empire.

Maybe this deep-dive into her ancestry will somehow immerse Alexis in the evil that once began to take over her nephew Nikolas, before he ultimately died/left the show. We loved to hate seeing Nikolas travel to the dark side. Maybe it’s Natasha’s turn.
Thoughts? Let us have ‘em. We just can’t wait to see how this one plays out.
